Week Commencing Monday 5 April 2010
The contractors, J M Bentley Limited, will be moving on site from Monday 12 April
to set up the compound area.
The usual footpath to Seven Bridges will be diverted so visitors can still access
the area.
J M Bentley will begin draw down of the Lake the week commencing Monday 19 April
after defishing.

Week commencing Monday 12 April
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the contractors J N Bentley have now moved on to
site.
They will spend this week setting up their site compound and making the area
safe for visitors.
Unfortunately this will mean that some paths around the Lake and into the Seven
Bridges Valley will be diverted for visitors. The vegetation on the island has
now been cleared and it’s wonderful to see the views in and out of the water garden
being revealed.
Week commencing Monday 19 April
The usual bridge over the dam into the Seven Bridges area of the estate will
be closed at some point this week. An alternative bridge is being created further
downstream with the new route clearly signed.
Now that the trees and stumps have been cleared from the east bank, archaeologists
are on site to see if there is anything significant. Once the exploration is complete
the eighteenth century carriage drive will be reinstated, though there are no
plans to open this route to visitors.
The pumps to drain the Lake will begin either this week or next once the fish
in the Lake have been humanely caught. We continue to work closely with ecologists
to monitor wildlife in the area.
Week commencing Monday 26 April
The frogs have now been humanely caught and relocated to the Moon Ponds. This
week the stilling areas are being prepared. The stilling area is beyond the dam
on the river into Seven Bridges. Large bags of gravel will be placed in the river
flow to allow the silt to settle and to prevent it from moving downstream. The
levels of silt particles in the river beyond the stilling area will be monitored
(the turbidity of the water).
The footpaths have now been diverted, with the public right of way into Mackershaw
deer park diverted to a set of steps near by. The footpath has been closed because
the contractor’s trucks will take the island from the Lake up that route.
Signage is now in place to direct visitors along the correct paths.
